With Care an Oriental Rug Will Last for Years

When looking to add a new dimension of style into your home there is practically nothing better than incorporating an area rug which can add grace and color into almost any room.  Oriental style rugs are an especially good choice when it comes to area rugs.  They can go with almost any decor and are really able to pull a room together. While long lasting, it is good to have a general understanding of overall Oriental rug care.

Most of these rugs are made with a natural wool pile and are really quite durable.  They can give you and your room years of beauty when simple care is taken to preserve both the color and pile of the rug.  Water can cause the cotton foundation to weaken and rot from too much water coming into contact with it.  Often the water is from potted plants being in direct contact with the rug. An easy Oriental rug care tip is to place to pot on a stool or plant stand to prevent any water from soaking into the rug.  The sun's ultraviolet rays can also cause the dyes to fade over years of exposure so it is always a good idea to shield the rug by utilizing blinds or sheer drapes to help block the strongest of the sun's rays.

Vacuuming your rug on a regular basis is probably the very best thing you can do for proper Oriental rug care.  Over time dirt can build up and can really accelerate the aging of the rug.  While vacuuming is excellent for cleaning it should be noted that some of the powerful beater bars on vacuums can be a little too much for some of the rugs.  For weekly vacuuming the normal vacuum nozzle is the most effective; you can save the beater bar for occasional deep cleaning.  Flipping the rug for even wear is an excellent way to increase the longevity and beauty of your rug.

When considering general Oriental rug care it is important to note than your furry loved ones can cause a lot of damage if left unchecked.  Puppies are notorious for chewing on the corners and the fringes of the rug and cats can cause serious damage if they scratch the rug at all frequently.  For puppies it is best to redirect them with appropriate chew toys and a water spray bottle is always a good deterrent for both dogs and cats.  If spills or urine stains occur prompt action is imperative.  Small stains can be cleaned yourself with a simple solution of 1/4 cup vinegar to 2 cups of water and a scant 1/2 teaspoon of dish washing liquid.  With simple care and regular cleaning your Oriental rug will last for years and will be one of the loveliest additions to your home.
