Oriental Area Rugs

When you think of Oriental rugs you think of the exotic look of luxurious rugs from China or Pakistan or Hong Kong. But the area rugs that come from Iran are the rugs that everyone associates the term “Oriental” with. These are actually Persian rugs but the general public here is not as particular about the quality of the rug and so does not make the distinction.

The designs of most Oriental rugs fit in the décor of extravagant palaces as well as the more down to earth cabins on lakefronts. Their beauty is breath taking and they are very durable. Some care has to be taken for such area rugs but the upkeep is minimal.

The wear and tear that these silk and wool rugs can take make them an attractive investment indeed.

Another Oriental style area rug that has to be mentioned is the rug that comes from Morocco. These rugs are a huge take home for Moroccan tourist who cannot resist the colorful rugs at the the bargain prices they find there.

However these rugs are a rung or two below other Oriental area rugs that come for other countries. Sometimes you can run into problems such as the colors bleeding through to the floor, thus leaving you with a major clean up if you decide to remove the rug. So before leaping at the bargain basement price you may want to check the rug’s country of origin.

Just a few tips about decorating with these oriental area rugs. If you want the space you are working with to appear spacious, choose a lighter color. Choosing a darker color will give that space a more intimate look and feel.

Also one should be aware what particular brands are the best. Never rush into a purchase without closely examining the rug. My favorite rugs are Sphinx rugs which offer a wide variety of designs and styles to choose from.

If you want to transform your space dramatically, then by all means look into the Oriental area rugs. Take the time to get the right design and the right size for the space and then be gracious when the compliments start pouring in.
